Garden roses, the most gracious romantic flowers!

...and one of the most difficult bloom to recreate from paper.

My paper flower journey started many years ago with a rose—the first flower I ever learned how to make. With its intricately arranged center petals, the garden rose is one of the most difficult flowers to craft from paper. However, I am sharing all the techniques and mechanics I have developed over the years, starting with the beloved English garden rose. For this variety, I developed an easy-to-follow petal placement system with basic rules that will help you understand the core logic behind building its unique structure. Going deeper into the learning process, you will discover a completely new approach to creating the center and layering the petals to recreate the famous 'Eden' rose and the vibrant 'Pink Expression' rose. In nature, no two roses look alike, and the same goes for our paper art – every single rose, whether made by you or me, will be entirely unique. While your creations will look remarkably similar to these models, mastering the mechanics of these specific flowers simply takes a bit of practice. Once you master the blooms, you will get to discover all the techniques I use for making realistic centers with delicate stamens, sweet rose buds, detailed foliage, and natural sepals. Finally, we will assemble everything together to create the perfect paper rose.

FAQ

  • What type of materials do I need to take this course?

To be able to navigate through this online course you will need a wide range of materials starting with Italian crepe paper, 60g and 90g, in different pastel colors (white cream, pale pink, ivory white, a few types of pink and coral tones, a variety of greens, etc.); you also need the heavy weight Italian “Dusky plum” and a few heavy weight German papers (brown, terracotta, solar yellow, cream grass green). You will need good qualuty white glue, Mod Podge and Tacky glue, a hot glue gun and floral wires (18/20 and 24/26 gauge), embossing tools, scissors, wire cutter, Styrofoam balls and all the basic materials that every paper florist should have in the studio. For the coloring process I use professional acrylic paints (a few types of red, white, titanium buff, yellow, ocher, green, brown and black) and Pan Pastels (brown, magenta, light pink, bright yellow, etc.). You also need a few paintbrushes, bowls and art sponges.

  • How long can I access the course?

Access is guaranteed as long as Christine Paper Design exists and I can sustain the business and hosting costs. While I will do my best to keep it online for a very long time, my advice is to make the most of the course as soon as you purchase it: download all the materials, explore them, watch the videos, and learn as much as you can. Enjoy the process, take notes, and make use of every single detail I provide.

  • Can I make the course if I’m a beginner or do I need to be an experienced paper florist? Can I make the course if I’m a beginner or do I need to be an experienced paper florist?

Normally, I would say that you need some experience with this craft, but I have seen some truly amazing results from absolute beginners. I don’t believe in limits or labels, so if you want to learn, go for it! Keep in mind that you will need to practice a few times until you get the result you desire—but that is exactly how it should be. Plus, as a beginner, you will have the opportunity to learn many techniques all at once, some of which took me years to perfect.

  • Can I reach out if I have questions?

Yes! Please feel free to ask anything you need to know about this course, and I will do my best to answer quickly. You can do so by leaving a comment below each lesson, and I will reply there.

  • I have no experience with acrylic coloring. Can I still make the project?

Yes! I offer plenty of support and guidance throughout this journey. I share detailed information on which brands to choose, how to dilute the paint, how to apply color to the paper, and many other useful painting tips to make your workflow easier. Throughout the course, I also provide advice on how to work with the paper in its natural state, without painting it.

  • Can I sell my work after completing this course?

Yes, although I have no control over how these designs are used, I would be very grateful if you tagged me when posting on social media and acknowledged the contribution of this course. For more details, make sure to read the Terms of Use.

  • I’m not a native English speaker. Will I be able to understand your course?

Absolutely! The course is highly visual, and each video is accompanied by written, step-by-step instructions. Since the steps are provided in text format, you can easily copy and paste them into any translation tool (like Google Translate or DeepL) to read them in your own language.

  • How do the two paper rose courses differ, and what do they have in common?

Both courses share the same core foundation: my signature botanical approach to paper art, using fine papers and advanced sculpting techniques. However, they are presented separately because they target entirely different structural styles and mechanics. While one focuses on classic florist varieties with structured concentric spirals, the other dives deep into the complex, dense layering and intricate cores unique to garden roses. Splitting them into distinct programs allows each masterclass to provide an in-depth, dedicated learning experience without overwhelming the student. However, the GENERAL TECHNIQYES & TIPS and ROSE FOLIAGE chapters present the same content for both courses.
